I get to play with children who are not even at my school. I have made so many new friends and learnt playing new games. I love playing Chess and Dobble the most. I eagerly wait for Wednesday evenings.

I love helping my mum with set up and wind up. It makes me feel very responsible and sensible. I look forward to playing Chess with John (name changed) who is already in Secondary school. He volunteers and helps all children with different games especially Chess. I have learnt many new games.

We come to games club as it’s a great way for the kids to meet up with friends outside of school and do something meaningful. It starts late enough to be able to get back from work to pick them up from afterschool club and still have an activity. We like playing quick games together.

The weekly games club at Kidbrooke Community Hub is one of the few places where our whole family — including a parent with young-onset dementia, two neurodivergent children, their carer, and our wider chosen family — can come together, feel welcome, and enjoy a ‘normal’ afternoon of laughter and connection. It’s a joyful model of inclusion that brings families like ours out of survival mode and into community.
